Nights are not dark enough starting around this date. But the Aurora will be back later this year! And with Aurora Labs you can still hear the Northern Lights throughout the year!
May 17: Beginning of the Polar Day
The Sun shines 24/7 in the Arctic Sky and doesn’t set for the next 2 months! Perfect time to come see the Midnight Sun!

June – July: Arctic Summer
The long and endless Arctic summer days are at their best! Snow is no longer covering the landscape, so this is a perfect time to experience the Arctic vegetation in all its beauty! The warm touch of the Midnight Sun creates a very particular and calm feeling.
July 27: The end of the Polar Day
The Sun begins to hide below the horizon more and more each passing day after this day. The best time to experience long summer evenings and the Belt of Venus begins!
Week 32 in August: Varangerfestivalen
The Varanger jazz festival occurs Week 32 each year. Come visit Vadsø during this week and see how the whole town changes its face for this event!
August: Last days of the Arctic summer
Nights start to make their presence felt more and more, each passing day. But days are still long, allowing you to enjoy all the Arctic summer activities and the summer landscapes.
September: Arctic Autumn
A perfect balance for the day/night cycle. You may see the Aurora during some nights and the weather still resembles more or less the colder Arctic summer. The landscape begins reminding everyone that autumn is here!
October 1: Northern Lights Season Open
The perfect time to start the Northern Lights season! Nights are dark and long enough dark to go for a great Aurora hunt in the Varanger region!
October – November: Waiting for the Arctic Winter
Excellent Northern Lights sightings! The Sun illuminates Vadsø and its region less and less, but still enough for you to see the landscapes bathed in sunlight. Snow starts covering the landscapes again, as well.
November 25: The beginning of the Polar Night
The Sun sets for the last time on this day and stays under the horizon for the rest of the year. But the Polar Night doesn’t mean a complete darkness! You still see the landscapes in the surreal polar blue light and the Arctic sky is just magnificent!
